Let’s admit it..we’ve all been there. Bought that cushion that was going to go so well with the bed…and linen…and rug that we were going to buy…but then life happened and we stopped half way…Now we are left with a cushion in last seasons print that doesn’t go with any items in your room! Do not despair, follow our simple 3 step buying guide to ensure each piece you buy for your bedroom has it’s coveted place and won’t be tossed out for hard rubbish (hmm not sure it can still be called that as cushions are quite soft…)
STEP ONE
Always start with the biggest surface areas = Walls & Floor.
– Think about the colour of your flooring and if you will be adding a rug
– If you are painting pop swatches of different colours on your walls. Be sure to view them in different lights so you know what to expect in low and bright lighting.
– Once you are confident you know what your floors and walls will look like move on to step 2!
STEP TWO
Big Ticket Items
– Now that your floor and walls are sorted move on to the bigger furniture items like your bed, bed head, cupboards, foot stools & side tables.
– Do your research! Start pinning things you like, stalk peoples instagram & rip out pages from your favourite magazine to get inspired for the look you want to achieve.
– Once you have purchased all these big ticket pieces move on to step 3!
STEP THREE
Now it’s time to shine!
– Congratulations all the hardest choices are done. Yippeee! It’s time to accessorise with all the softer components of your bedroom.
– Think about adding layers of different textures to ensure your bedroom feels warm and inviting
– Purchase cushions, throws, plants, vases, books, prints & linen that all work in with your style and budget.
Top Tip! As tempting as it may be don’t fall into old habits and skip to Step 3 before sorting out steps 1 & 2…unless there is something that you absolutely MUST have in your space like a sentimental piece. There are loads of soft furnishings available at any given time and you will be bound to find the things you need when the time is right and the bones of your room are all planned out. Remember that Step 3 can be a gradual process that develops over time.
